I have been a loyal Globe user since the cellphone boom here in the Philippines… I have been singing nothing but praises for Globe, expect for my short stint with them a while ago. Other than that, I have got nothing complain-able about their service. I know, they’re not perfect, so are the others. There may be several glitches in their technology and products but I overlooked it and continued on patronizing the brand. Until now.
I’ve been planning to get a Wireless Broadband connection for my personal use at home. Once, I borrowed a Smart Bro Wireless from a friend and tried it out at home, using my age-old Toshie. I was quite surprised actually that the connection was faster than expected. I was impressed with Smart, to be honest, because I never thought they can satisfy me with their product. I was quite happy with Smart Bro during that short period that I was using it.
Now, there’s an urgent need to get a net connection at home (what that is, I still have to blog about it in the future ). So when I heard just last Friday that Smart Bro has a new and improved Smart Bro for only Php 1,995 (before it was Php 2,500) I immediately checked out their site and really considered buying one. But when I thought of checking out Globe Telecom’s site first (because for sure, they don’t want to be left behind), there I saw their new and improved wireless broadband product, the Globe Tattoo (formerly known as Globe Visibility) and is a hundred pesos cheaper than what Smart is offering.
And so I headed to Mega Mall after my event to check out their center. I went to Smart Center first but found out that they ran out of stock of their Smart Bro. Disappointed (but not much) but with a determination that I’m going home with a Wireless Broadband Connection kit with me, I went straight to Globe Center and purchased the Globe Tattoo (To be honest, I tend to be a compulsive buyer so I guess it’s partly my fault). I had no reservations with my purchase because (1) it’s Globe, my forever network provider and (2) I’ve actually heard, in passing before, that Visibility is better than Bro.
So upon trying it the next day (Sunday), I was very disappointed. Loading Plurk home page took me more than a two minutes, Facebook and Friendster a minute, Gmail longer than Plurk… and so on. I’ve never experienced waiting this long when I used Smart Bro. And even tho I’ve positioned my Toshie near the window… nothing happened. It sill is s.l.o.o.o.w.w.w.
So, Globe, please, please, please, improve your service. If you don’t want more disappointed customers, please do something about your wireless connection.
Where did you try your Globe Tattoo? Must be the area.
Thanks!

hi Luz, at home actually. But I can’t help but compare it with Smart. I used Smart Bro using the same PC, same location. It was fast. 🙂

Same thing with our office. SmartBRO was pretty good–we were using it the whole time we didn’t have a DSL connection at work–while it took me 6 minutes to connect to Globe’s own website. And I couldn’t connect to any other website. Globe fan rin ako, mostly. Been a postpaid subscriber since college, pati DSL ko sa bahay, Globelines. But Visibility, sad to say, is a lemon.

I tried Globe broadband before and it sucks… No wonder their Globe Tattoo has a bad rep too.

@badet: yeah, that’s so sad to know nga eh, especially for me because I’ve been a loyal Globe user for years now… I was super disappointed… until now, it still is slow even if i’ve already put the stick near the window.

Parang ang dating eh dial up connection na prepaid. Try to check the download and upload speed at http://www.speedtest.net/ sana hindi mababa ang bandwith ng Globe Tatoo.

@Rjane: come to think of it, para lang talaga siguro siyang glorified dial-up connection.. tsk, tsk. thanks for that info, will definitely check the speed! 🙂

Hi there.. I landed on your site when I was looking for reviews on Globe Tattoo versus Smart Bro. My husband and I bought Tattoo a few days ago and was very disappointed with the 48 years connection. We couldn’t even open YM, and Gmail couldn’t even load. Our area is great because we live in the center of Cebu City. A friend of ours lent us his Smart Bro and it’s been totally wonderful. I really wanted to complain to Globe about it and return the product we purchased.

For me Globe Tattoo works fine to others globe tattoo has a worst service. But it ends up to your location.
From my home at El Pueblo, Kingspoint Sudb. Bagbag Novaliches signal is always HSDPA. But using it in Muñoz area it always fall on GPRS only and connection is really slow……
SmartBro (prepaid)on the other hand is really slow at El Pueblo, Kingspoint Subd. Bagbag Novaliches. But haven’t tested this yet in Muñoz area.
I’ll try SUN Broadband next to check and finalize which I will subscribe on….. Because I’m using SUN on my mobile and its always on full signal at home.

@Lyong_Min: well, tested both Smart Bro (prepaid) and Tattoo in my place, Smart is a lot faster…
I have reservations about Sun Broadband… Isn’t it limited to Metro Manila only?

@Joyceee: As I said thier service varies on location where I live SmartBro is almost no signal at all compared to Globe and SUN.
But my Bro at Caloocan is using SmartBro and he is satisfied with it.
I preferred Globe or SUN broadband because Globe cellsite is located on top of our condo building. And for SUN’s Broadband my condo unit/ building is located at the center of 3 cell site of SUN.
According to SUN they only offer it with in Metro Manila area.

Just an advise to those want to avail Wireless Broadband. Mag-test muna kayo sa mga area kung saan kayo madalas pumunta o tumambay for Wireless Broadband signal and performance. Test different providers like SUN, SMART and GLOBE.
For me hiniram ko yung mga modem na ginamit ko pang test sa house ko at sa office. Yung Globe sobrang bagal sa office ko but at home ok naman sya. And for SUN ok ang performance sa office but sa house the best I can get as high as 2.2MBps download rate.
I did’nt tried Smart since wala talagang signal Smart sa bahay.

Ugh. Hate tattoo. It was just a waste of my freakin money! I spent less than 2k for nothing.
Lagi siyang 0.00kbps. Tsk. Sayang load. Kahit YM di maka connect.
Ambagal tlga. Damn.
Wish there was a refund or something. Or at least, AT LEAST, they improve the damn connection.
What kind of stupid thing is TATTOO?!
For 10 mins. it’s fine, then after 10mins. the connection? nawala na. Ugh. I’m in freakin manila! sampaloc, manila, for that matter. Tas ganun? Even s province in laguna. It’s worse.
Damn.
So guys, i recommend you buy GLOBE TATTOO, if you want to be irritated.

minsan ko lang naranasan na HSPDA ung c0nnection nya and it never happened again. sigh.
it’ll take a couple of minutes just logging in to Facebook or surfing any other sites. Google lng ata pinakamadali kong puntahan. lol
